Bill Shankley's arrival at Anfield heralded the transformation of a complacent, under-achieving big city club into a giant of English football. Fortunately for the inspirational Scot, an outstanding off-the-field team was already in place. With Bob Paisley as first team trainer, Reuben Bennett as chief coach and Joe Fagan in charge of the reserves, a backroom brigade was there to follow and develop Shankley's creed based on loyalty, honesty and doing things simply and well.
